An awesome combination of online advocacy and field organizing!

Now, the question is -- Will you prostitute this to the Democratic Party? Or will you use it solely and broadly to promote peace and other progressive values?

Here we are, tens of thousands of people looking to shape the world. Why isn't it done?
Let me run this by you; he's barking up the wrong tree, you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, there's no sense in beating a dead horse. Where is this going? Where are our energies going? Aren't all of our aspirations dependent on cooperation from lawmakers? Here's another; the kids are in charge of the candy store.
If you got that message, great. Now what? Wouldn't it make more sense to simply get together, as a group, and elect some of us to office? My proposal is this: we truly get organized, we become,"of one mind", one organization with one primary purpose. It is my goal to convince you of some thing. We must stop beating the dead horse. The dead horse represents the US gov. It will not get up, ever, it is dead. We must take back the reins of power in this country. It's a big job, but it is a job that can be done and the proof, for you who doubt it, is that it has been done. The reins of power have been usurped, but not by us.
One will ask how it is possible to fight this enemy and win. It is to powerful, to entrenched and there 's just no way to go up against all that money. We must remember; as a united group we have more money than them, we out number them. As a united group we make them look small. We certainly have more voting power than them. All we have to do is unite, pick candidates from amongst ourselves and elect them. It's not only all we have to do it's all there is to do.
All my life I've been told,"Doug you really have some good ideas, you should do something with all these ideas you have". As an individual my ideas are just that: ideas. Of myself I am ineffectual. Some of you on the other hand created this web site. You create organizations and bring people together. You know the ropes of government. You've visited your congressmen, organized rallies, supported candidates even got some elected, written and published articles, made headlines, you are the United States of America. As a group nothing on this earth comes close to the power you wield. So I am here and I have no idea what to do next. I need you to get organized. The people of earth need you to get together and stop the suffering. We need you to stop petitioning the dead horses and bury them.
We should not be begging some one to stop poisoning us. We shouldn't be pleading with the government to stop passing laws that result in us being worked to death. I could go on and on and on. I will one time make a plea; please work together, get on the same page for as long as it takes to become the government. When you unite I am here, tell me what to do next.

I don't see that we, as a nation, have this luxury of time. I am over being stunned by human behavior. The utter selfishness of people is simply what is. Caught up in their little causes. The trees, the kittens, their party and hundreds of other special interest affiliations. Fragmented combatants trying to get to the front of the line. The chaos of the concerned enlightened.
At present our species is endangered. Your nation is leading the fight to destroy your freedom to concern yourself with causes. One of the ways this takes place, right under your noses, is to make sure you are consumed with your particular fragment. It keeps you from seeing the whole picture. The question you should be asking me is why would anyone, assuming it's true, want to destroy the nation and endanger the species. That would take a long time and at some level you know the answer. Think of what your idea of success and happiness is, does it take into consideration the symbiotic success and happiness of the species? For example saving trees, do you just want people to stop killing forests? Would it saner and best for the welfare and happiness of the species to set up a plan to raise crops that could be made into an organic plastic-like material that could be cast molded into affordable structures thereby making wood buildings obsolete? I ask the question why would anyone want to bang their head up against an immovable object? Is it not that the hope of the eventual movement of that object holds the idea of happiness? The object in it's majority doesn't care about your trees. The majority of the object is dedicated to the desires of it's sponsors, not yours. So on a smaller scale why would anyone want to kill the ecosystem that sustains the life on our planet? These are the questions that you need to be concerned with if you enjoy having the freedoms you think of as your rights.
If congress was serving the people it would impeach the executive branch immediately, then spend that money on a UN peace keeping force and reparation. They don't because there sponsors don't want them to. If we want to keep our freedoms and see the nation survive we need to make sure that no special interest is able to hire a lawmaker. This happens in elections when there is no one you have chosen in the race. The way it is now you think you have a choice, it's like if Ben&Jerry was the only people making ice cream and they only offered two flavors.
The solution to this problem is to have no citizen vote for any candidate running with special interest money. The main concern of every citizen needs to change from there particular special interest to the interest of the nation. The clean money election act is poised in the congressional branch. It will enable us to have a country again. If you think you have one now you're not paying attention. That self absorbed perception is what has allowed the country to come to this teetering brink.

I can see that our member comments fall closely in line with the poll we ran. It is definitely the case that there are diverging opinions about this piece of legislation. We are now posting the letter we sent to members of the Progressive Caucus to make clear the position of our members.

I'm angry that you guys would ask us to help defeat the Pelosi bill. Handing Democrats a defeat on this weakens our hand, it doesn't strengthen it.

What do you think will happen if it doesn't pass? They have to pass a bill. If there's a next bill it will be one the Blue Dogs and Repubs support because that's where the votes are. Take the goddam knife away from your noses and think this through. Do another poll if you have to. I think like MoveOn you'll find your membership isn't nearly as foolishly impractical as you think it is.
